Online Community Call – Stories in Fabric – Crafting Futures with Motifs & Biomaterials

We’re excited to invite you to our next Community Call, where we will explore the intersection of craft, narrative, and material innovation with two creative voices from Egypt and Portugal.

In this session, we will dive into how:

  • how contemporary creatives are working with regenerative approaches and narrative design

  • how motifs and materials can tell new stories in fashion and craft

  • the dialogue between traditional techniques and material innovation

Join us in understanding how traditional printing techniques and emerging biomaterials are shaping new ways of thinking about fashion, design, and self-expression!

Speakers

Amar Elzaman Abdelhalim, Creative Director & Co-founder of Chagara (Egypt)

Amar is the co-founder of Chagara, a block-printing workshop in Egypt that specializes in authentic fabrics combining storytelling and contemporary design. In Chagara’s creative practice, motifs become characters on a stage—each print a scene in a larger story. Amar’s work explores cultural abstraction, self-expression, and the evolving role of textile crafts in modern life.

Rafael Calado, Founder of BioLab Lisboa (Portugal)

Rafael is the founder of Bio Lab Lisboa, a research and innovation hub focused on biomaterials and sustainable design. With a background in architecture, Rafael works at the intersection of science and creativity—developing new materials derived from biological sources and exploring their integration into textiles and fashion. He’ll share insights into the potential and challenges of regenerative design approaches in the material world.

We hope to see you then 🙂
