Our future ‘make-a-thek’ trainers

We are specifically supporting the development of two key roles:

Public Makerspace Coordinators:

People who want to learn how to manage and grow a public makerspace within a local library, while inspiring community engagement.

Circular Workshop Facilitators:

People interested in improving their facilitation skills, applying circular economy principles in a practical way and merging traditional techniques with digital tools.

Your Role:

As a make-a-thek trainer, you will:

  • Connect and engage with the local library community.

  • Learn how to make sure a makerspace isn't just a room with tools, but a true part of the neighborhood.

  • Support people as they become familiar with circularity, whether it’s through their own creative projects or by connecting them to the local ecosystem.

  • Make sure the space feels accessible and welcoming for everyone, no matter their background.

  • Host at least 2 activities/workshops

Should YOU Apply? YES!

If you are passionate about community and want to co-create with others, this programme is right for you.

We prioritize attitude and mindset above all else. Technical skills can be strengthened during our online programme!

FAQ - OPEN CALL

  • We are looking for people who are excited to work closely with their local public libraries, transforming them into active hubs for making and community connection.

    We also value:

    • Diversity & Representation: We believe our trainers should reflect intersectional identities (gender, ethnicity, cultural background, etc.). We seek people who understand who has been historically excluded from these spaces and how to actively involve them.

    • Adaptability: The ability to grow with the project. As we test new ideas, we need people comfortable responding to the emerging needs of the community.

    • Openness: A willingness to learn and co-create as we go.

  • To apply, you should be:

    • Living or working in Europe (including Horizon Europe programme countries).

    • You have experience or a strong interest in communities, fashion, crafts, or digital fabrication.

    • You are interested in working with local public libraries.

      • Note: We especially welcome applicants who already have a connection to a library that is interested in hosting a makerspace.

    • Availability: Able to commit to a flexible schedule between May to November 2026.

    • Language:

      • The training will be held in English. Fluency is required, as long as you can understand and communicate the basics.

      • You are fluent in the language of the community where you will run your activities.

    • Proximity (Optional): Proximity to pilot locations or bus tour stops is desirable for future on-site support.

  • By the end of this program, you’ll have everything you need to step up as a "make-a-thek" trainer.

Our programme is designed for you to focus on your chosen role while we all learn the make-a-thek way together.

Every future trainer will explore and apply our unique methodology:

    • Learn to design for inclusivity and create grassroots impact within your community.

    • Learn to transfer knowledge through a heritage and community-led lens.

    • Explore existing low-tech innovation and open-source models that make circularity local and accessible to everyone.

      Public Makerspace Coordinator:

      • Learn the logistics for setting up and running a makerspace.

      • Explore "Critical Making" as a concept for socially responsible creation and learn specific guidelines to make spaces inclusive to everyone.

      • Learn how to inspire community engagement from daily operations to coordinating with new collaborators to build a sustainable local network.

      Circular Workshop Facilitator:

      • Learn to lead hands-on workshops that integrate digital, circular, and regenerative techniques.

      • Teach Circularity, whether co-creating local circular models and developing circular "business" ideas or helping others rethink materials, moving from "waste" to "resource."

      • Move from basic material knowledge toward deep, sustainable, circular thinking.

    • 6 weeks of FREE expert training (May-June): You’ll be one of 18 people learning directly from our international consortium experts. This includes 4 hours of inspirational talks and 12 hours of online training.

    • 4 months of ongoing support (May-Nov): Ongoing support and feedback as you plan and run your own community activities.

    • A budget for your ideas: Up to 700€ per person to help cover the costs of your workshops and activities.

    • Resource Library: Full access to our curated resources, methods, and tools to help you bring your projects to life.

    • Digital recognition of your participation as one of the new make-a-thek trainers.

    • Travel opportunities: The chance for select participants to travel and connect in person with peers across Europe during the programme.

Our Approach:

Adopt, Adapt, Apply

The make-a-thek programme is more than just learning skills; it is a process designed to help you grow and adapt the knowledge to your local context.

We follow a three-step methodology:

  • ADOPT: Understand the make-a-thek method, get inspired, and position yourself as a trainer in a digital and circular landscape.

  • ADAPT: Experiment with tools and collaborative methods. Adapt what you've learned to fit your local context and prototype workshop activities with support from mentors.

  • APPLY: Test your ideas and run your activities!
