make-a-thek Bus brings circular making and community creativity across the Baltic States

Press Release make-a-thek

Matty the bus starts the second make-a-thek journey

After connecting communities through Germany, the Czech Republic, and Poland, the make-a-thek Bus is returning to the road for its second European journey.

This August, the mobile makerspace will travel across Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania, transforming libraries and public spaces into temporary creative hubs where people can exchange clothes, explore textile traditions, learn new skills, and create together.

Equipped with tools, machines, and workshop materials, the make-a-thek Bus brings circular making practices directly into communities. Through hands-on activities, participants are invited to rethink how textiles are used, repaired, transformed, and shared.

The Baltic Bus Tour continues the project's mission of connecting people through making together. Along the route, participants will contribute to the growing make-a-thek Community Quilt — a collective artwork that reflects the many people, stories, and communities connected through the journey.

IA journey through Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania

The Baltic Bus Tour will visit libraries and community spaces across three countries, bringing together local knowledge, creative practices, and sustainable approaches to fashion and crafts.

Estonia: Starting the journey through creative reuse

The journey begins in Estonia, where the make-a-thek Bus will visit Pärnu, Rakvere, and Viljandi.

The first stops will focus on creative reuse and textile experimentation, featuring activities such as clothing swaps, textile mosaic making, heat press textile design, and beeswax wrap making.

In Viljandi, the programme expands with workshops exploring machine embroidery with reflective threads, crochet techniques, leather scrap reuse through laser cutting, and keychain making.

These first stops will introduce communities to the possibilities of circular making while creating opportunities for participants to share skills and stories.
